Lake Naivasha: Boats, Bikes, Hikes
Coming back from Volunteering and back to Nairobi, we were excited to get away just 2 hour drive to the relaxing and low-key spot of Lake Naivasha, which also offered a lot of fun activities for us to do. We booked 3 nights at the highly recommended Fisherman’s Camp campground. At arrival we were excited that we had. The campground was awesome. It was right on the lake with a great main house/lodge/restaurant that was super cute. It had a bar and cool rustic outdoor seating where Aaron and I would spend nights reading and playing cards.
On our way down we met some girls, while students at Columbia in NYC were South African and Mongolian natives. They were in East Africa for the summer interning for some pretty cool organizations that our worthy of do-gooding impact. We struck a friendship and to our luck were thinking about staying at our campsite, so we caught a ride with them back. On the way I convinced them that they had to go on the Hippo Safari with us.
This place sounds fantastic! Except maybe for the hippos roaming at night. Where did they put up the electrical fence?
Right in front of the lake, but they didn’t turn on till after 6 and the hippos would come out of the water to roam at dusk.
You guys have a lot of guts to use the local transportation options… so many uncertainties in the whole arrangement. I’m so glad you never got stranded.
Hell’s Gate looks spectacular!
I love your photos.
The biggest issue is communication with the drivers/bus touts. Everything question is answered “no problem” – you learn to go with it.
