Caught in a Meme
Hungarian for “no” is “nam”, and as we were told and soon experienced first hand, Hungarians usually say “no” with several of them. The result is that many times in public you will hear “nam, nam, nam”. This is verrrry similar to my non-Hungarian ears as the “NOM NOM NOM” of Internet fame, and several times a day I’ve thought I overheard references to the meme or young people talking about food, only to find two ordinary Hungarians talking.
But Hungarian food has been really good, so maybe all the nam’s are appropriate! We in particular liked the soups, goulash, stuffed cabbage, and a fried snack called lángos. Lángos is fried dough topped with sour cream, cheese and garlic. The combination somehow works, and tastes great.
Nom nom nom!
Love Langos !!!!!!!
